If however, I use the BuddyPress profile page to change the picture, then the correct image is displayed in the toolbar and wordpress profile page, as well as the buddypress profile.

I discovered that if I delete the ‘Gravatar’ directory in the WordPress installation, the correct images are picked up by the BuddyPress profile.

However, the WordPress profile doesn’t show a profile picture, nor does the top bar.
If I deactivate BuddyPress, then WordPress picks up the Gravatar images correctly.

This could be a valid bug. Could you share at which page you got this error from?

I’d love to get more details here. If you have benchmark or more data about the size of the database and queries performed. If you use Query Monitor, you can see a lot about it.

Other than the user handbook, already mentioned, trying BuddyPress out is THE BEST way to learn it, IMO. BuddyPress is a complex software with varying features, which allows for multiple use cases.

@pineapplepalm, The reason it wasn’t posted until now was because when serious vulnerabilities are found the announcements are held back until patches can be released, and people have already had time to update their sites. Otherwise you’d be announcing the vulnerabilities to hackers before the fixes had been distributed.

Hi,
On the user profile you can use

$user_id = bp_displayed_user_id();


to get the user id of the currently displayed user.
Same way, you can get username by

$username = bp_get_displayed_user_username()
