edit members loop

hi,
how do i edit the members loop (or ajax.php) so that the loop runs only if there is a search_term.
In other words when i hit the url : mywebsite/members, I can see all the member in the “All Members” tab. I do not want to show the list of all the members unless some search term was entered.Thanks.
