Question for clarification: bbPress Plugin

I saw this:

How does this change influence the work for the bbpress plugin? I’m curious how that section of the code works. Eventually this would point to 1.2 but it says 1.1? Do I misunderstand the numbering of bbPress? Isn’t the plugin 1.2? What is the difference between trunk and a particular branch here?
