Access to specific blog based on xProfile Acct Type

Reading the threads about creating profile types and account types i learned how to check to see if the member is of a certain type and if so, do whatever.
What would be the best way to check for this acct type to give them access a specific site on the network. I thought about putting that check in the header of the theme, if not that acct type, then show a splash page. but maybe that’s a bit too much. Any thoughts on this.
