I’m trying to get one post_per_page on the homepage for a specific category (wod)

I set ‘Blog pages show at most’ in the admin to 1. It shows just 1 post on the homepage for all categories

When I add
“
to the index file, it will show 1 post under the correct category but when I click the previous link, it shows the same post for each page

When I change the ‘Blog pages show at most’ in the admin to 10 and add

to the index file, it will show 1 post under the correct category but this time when I click the previous link it goes to ‘…/page/2’ and says ‘Page not found’

Please help!!
