Customizing BuddyPress 2.1

    Hi there,

Been awhile since I’ve worked with BuddyPress (since 1.7) and things have changed.

I’ve discovered that BP Theme Pack no longer works and that’s a big disappointment.

I’m now stuck in a rut and could use some direction.

I’m trying to modify the layout and add new elements to the Forum and Group pages.

Basically, I’d like to create a custom header for each of these sections.

I’d like to re-position the pagination and add a new column to the forum.

All I am looking for is directional help. Just point me in the right direction, I can go from there.

I’d be most appreciative of any directional help or suggestions you can provide. Thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Bryce.

    Hello,

If anything, just some direction on custom headers for each section and I can figure the rest out hopefully. This would at least point me in the direction for figuring out how to approach things.

    Thanks!

    ?? How so? Please explain.

There are guides to working with theme compat templates in the Codex, I would make a start by reading through those and seeing if those help you along, if still trying to figure out custom templates then post back with more specific requirements that are proving hard to accomplish.

    Hello,

I tried installing the “bp-theme-pack” plugin from an old backup we had since it’s no longer available on WordPress.org and didn’t seem to make a difference. However, I have (since posting this) made some progress. I guess what my biggest challenge is, so many things have changed since my last using BP.

I may post back with some questions but right now I’ve finally made some progress.

    Thank you for your reply.

It’s sounding like you haven’t yet really worked with Theme Compatibility (template pack) the files that live in core /buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/ these files are the ones that BP uses by default to deliver BP screens in any theme – if you are used to the older methods using bp-default theme and template pack plugin those probably need to be unlearned/discarded; theme compat templates are easier to work with and afford more options for customization.

These are the guides you probably need to read through:

    Hello Hugo,

So I have discovered! Much of what I knew has since changed.

I’ve been exploring the link provided for the better part of my evening now.

It’s a fascinating learning curve to what approaches I had once used.

If you do not mind my asking, kind of stumped at the moment…

Where can I find the search form? I’d like to customize that more than CSS allows.

For BP directory index pages ? ‘/members/index.php’ search is called at top of page ‘bp_directory_members_search_form()’ that function is located in /bp-members/bp-members-templates.php L:1024 you can filter the function if you needed to adjust the markup.
