Some advice – Linking Posts to Groups

The BP Codex says this: “Groups in BuddyPress are gatherings of members, posts, and any other user-generated content.”
I can’t see how posts can be linked to groups in BP for this statement to be correct. I’m aware of the plugins that claim to link Groups to posts, but none actually work as far as I can see and clearly this statement in the codex seems to imply this functionality is inherent in BP. What am I missing?
