Can I merge groups along with their forum posts?

The BP site I’m involved was originally set up where users could create their own groups. Now, though, the community and admins have agreed that a reorganization is in order and I would like to be able to merge the forum posts in disparate groups together into a smaller group of admin defined groups.

Here’s a rough example of what I would like to do:
    * User-created group 1 (“Educational Games”) + user-created group 2 (“Game mechanics in education”) => one new group (“Gaming and education”), while retaining all of the user activity and posts from both of the original groups.

Is this at all possible without mucking around majorly with the database?

One option is to install this plugin: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/external-group-blogs/

It imports activity from other blog feeds around the web. What you would do is put the address of the feeds of the group’s activity streams into the group, so the posts would flow into that group also.

Would that work for forum posts? Could I move pre-existing posts?
