Creating a member loop inside the member loop

Hello,
I am trying to create a member directory where I could display a list of architects and have their individual assistants displayed next to them.
I have a custom profile field where I enter the name of the person’s assistant. I would rather have a drop down list of all the members, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible.
How can I fetch the assistant’s photo and link it to his / her profile?
I’ve already modified the loop to select architects that DO HAVE an assistant. Can I hook into the first loop and get the assistants profile from his / her full name?
I’m not sure which direction to look in to tackle this project. Any help would be great…
