Is there anyway to have a friends only activity stream?

I tested the example showed here.

However it doesn’t work properly. For example it breaks the default “groups”, “mentions” and “friends” filters.

Also, if you leave the site open for a minute or so the “Load Newest” prompt appears. This prompt ignores the activity stream filters and shows everyone’s activity.
