Cant get my mind around Groups…

Hi,
I started to look at BuddyPress today to be able to handle groups for a “wordpress-app”.
Some things I can’t get my mind around is:
– (1) I have a hidden group, but new articles are published as public. I thought they should only be visible for other group users.

– (2) When allowing a new user to register the form only reloads and does not create a new user. No error messages.

I currently run WordPress/Buddypress on a local server (map) with no other issues, and it is a clean install with very little settings changed so far.

Any thought?
