How to redirect after signup

I have created 5 user field groups. When a user signs up the group 1 (Base/Primary) group is presented after which the process is complete and the user then will have to complete his/her profile from edit profile when logged in again.
The problem is that I have more than 80% incomplete profiles on my website.
I would like to know if anyone has written a custom script register.php to be used in a child theme to modify the process…:-
When the ne subscriber clicks the save and continue from the signup (which includes the Base/Primary fields), then be redirected to the next group (group2) and then from there to group3, etc?
Some pointers for this or a plugin that already exist will be appreciated.
