Could somebody please explain the basics of modifying the activity templates?

    Hi guys,

    I’m asking a lot of questions that I’m sure I could figure out for myself if I just knew how to access the templates that build the loops for the activity streams.

    I can’t find how to do this in the codex and would really appreciate it if somebody could just point me in the right direction. I just don’t know where to look?

    Do I have to set up some hooks in my functions.php?
    If so what are they are where can I find them?

    Or can I just over-ride the existing templates with my own?
    If so where are the original ones for the activity stream?

    Is the activity stream even being built with a template?
    I can’t even find the answer to that!

    Maybe i’m not getting any replies because i’m using the wrong terminology?
    If so please tell me where i’m going wrong.

    The light goes on when you click on ↑↑↑ Documentation ↑↑↑
    The sun comes up when you enter activity loop in the search box
    and you get

    Activity Loop

    BP use only dynamic pages and some templates, depending of the context and shows them on the appropriate page (here: activity)

    BP templates are all in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/

    Brilliant thank you @danbp that’s exactly what I was looking for.

    I know you were being sarcastic when you said “The light goes on when you click on ↑↑↑ Documentation ↑↑↑” but as I’ve explained in other threads on here, the way the codex is laid out is very confusing for a new user.

    Maybe you guys that have all been working with this for years know your way around, but I spent ages trawling through the docs and couldn’t find that holy page you’ve just given me the link to.

    Remember, I’ve only been using Buddypress for a couple of days. I didn’t even know what it was that I was looking for so how was I supposed to search for the term “Activity Loop”?

    I’m sorry if the questions I’m asking are coming across as lazy but I assure you that is not the case. I just wanted somebody to point me in the right direction which you have just done, so thanks again.

    how was I supposed to search for the term “Activity Loop”?

    Perhaps because you mentionned it 😉 ? A search is commonly made by using key words.

    8 words in your phrase which contains 3 key words. As simple as that (and i’m not sarcastic by saying this). Hold on, you have not finished to read. 😀
