Activity – Upload Media

Does anyone think BuddyPress should have a feature for adding media (photos, videos) in the activity stream without having to use a plugin?
There are 3 plugins for this (all are free). RT-media and Mediapress both are quite bulky plugins that have a lot features such as lightbox and galleries, and RT-media has a lot of extra add-ons. However, I have to use Activity Plus, as it is the only one that works without any problems for me.
Wouldn’t it be better for BuddyPress to include a feature to be able to upload media in the activity? Then plugins may be used to add to it for extra features like lightbox, galleries etc.
Others have mentioned this in the support forums a few times previously. Would this ever be considered?
