Does Buddypress even work?

So I installed Buddypress Forums on my WP site and finally activated it successfully, but there is no forum and I see no instructions on how to set one up. Is this just more trouble than it’s worth? I’ve used another forum software that, after installing, gave me a page which allowed me to create a forum topic and I was off and running. I didn’t like the look of it so I just dl’ed Buddypress but I don’t even see a “How to” set up a forum info on the “How to” page of THIS site. Can anyone tell me how to set up a freaking forum, or is BP really just for professionals and developers, which I am not? Thanks.
Oh, and my last cry for help never posted, just like my three previous posts in which I asked for help. Is this post going to post? Or will it go where the others went (where missing socks go, I imagine)?
