Using Buddy Press to create a media sharing site

I loaded up buddypress on a dev site to test the waters as I have never used it before. I have been trying to find a good tutorial series to create everything from beginning to end and explain everything, but all I could really find are tutorials for installation and configuring. Or maybe I just do not understand enough in order to ask the right questions.

I would like to create a site that my friends and I can upload music, photos, videos, and/or podcasts. categorize and or tag them. I also like to add a “like” button to the media so friends can vote on the best ones in categories and then filter the top rankings ones on their own masonry landing page such as PODCAST – POLITICS. How can I utilize BuddyPress to suit my needs?

You can add functionality to BuddyPress using plugins. If a particular feature isn’t available as a plugin you could try implement it yourself or ask a coder for help. BuddyPress has a huge API that will help.

The look and feel of your website is governed by the theme you choose.

If you already have a dev site operational, try out some different plugins and themes to see which ones work best for your project.

    Thanks.

I have already done that. I want to be able to group uploads into categories or topics? Should I just use groups for this? Or is there a plugin that allows taxonomies for media in the activity feed?
