Is buddy press suitable?

Hi Would like to setup a page for our members that does the following:

    1) has a profile page for each member.
    2) each member can be sent an email with their log in details.
    3) has custom fields displaying the members position on a number of views on topics.
    4) member will be able to log in and change their views.
    5) members can not send messages to each other or edit any other content on the site – only their profiles.
    6) there would be pages where you could view all the members that have a particular view on a particular topic.
    7) you could search for members with particular views on topics

Is buddy press capable of all of this?

    Many thanks

BuddyPress can do all of these things right out of the box. Regarding point 5, you will need to disable both the private messaging and activity components. That can be done from the admin area in a few clicks.

    great – thank you.

Is it a relatively simple process?

Can members and their views be imported from a spreadsheet?

    Thanks

Yes, BuddyPress is just a plugin so once you have WordPress set up you can install BuddyPress via a few clicks.

Importing members from a spreadsheet will most likely need a plugin. Try searching the Plugin Directory to see what is available.

Hi Is it possible to setup a profile for all the members initially WITHOUT and email address and have them register an email address and password to their account later?

You’d need to use a dummy email for each user as the email field is required. It doesn’t need to be a real address, just something you can use as a placeholder until they log in and change it. For example:

    user1@example.com
