fan club community?

I am trying to build a fan club type site using WordPress and wanted to integrate a community where fans can go to gather online, post stuff, and interact with one another. I’ve a whole lot about buddypress but want to make sure this would be a good solution alongside bbpress? Thoughts? I’ve personally never used this plugin so I wanted to make sure. Would this also work alongside a membership plugin for free and paid memberships like WP Simple Membership?
