I can’t access my recent forum post
-
Hi all,
I just submitted a post in how-to and troubleshooting about 10 minutes ago. Then I saw the extensive list of questions I was supposed to answer when submitting the form.
I went to edit my request but couldn’t get back to it. I see the post headline and link in the list but when I click on it I get a message that says there are no posts in this topic.
Secondly, speaking as someone who spends many hours providing wordpress community support each week, I believe there is a limit to how much you should ask users when submitting a support request. There does come a point when a user is so turned off by the extensive list of questions that they don’t even bother submitting a request. Over time it hurts adoption. I think it’s important to find a balance of questions that help your support team be responsive and timely and helps users/customers feel like the “cost” of using your platform is not too high.
Perhaps you can separate this list of 15 questions into a short list of essential info, say 3 or 4 questions, and make the rest nice-to-haves for those that know how to find or deliver the information you’re after.
1. Which version of WordPress are you running?
2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install?
3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory?
4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version?
5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting.
6. Which version of BP are you running?
7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version?
8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?
9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes?
10. Have you modified the core files in any way?
11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php?
12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in?
13. Please provide a list of any errors in your server’s log files.
14. Which company provides your hosting?
15. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else? For my previous submission that I would edit if I could:
I am using WordPress 3.2.1, Buddypress 1.5.1Thanks for listening.
