Password change blocks user

    When a new user registers they can sign out and then sign back in using their login details.
    If they then change their password, they get an email acknowledging but when they try and login, that password does not work (and neither does the old one). I have tried logging them in with user name and email, but get same result. I have tried changing their password myself, but same thing happens.
    I am using buddypress inside wplms.
    Can anyone help?

    My theme is wplms 4.6.1
    Buddypress version 2.7.0

    Make sure you don’t have any plugins that interfere with registration. I notice on your site you have social login.

    If you do have plugins you can deactivate them and test.

    Try resetting password from yoursite.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

    I have been constantly testing the problem. It appears
    1. One account (apoorv.bamba) is blocked and no matter how often I change password, I cannot access it.
    2. Other users it seems as if the problem is that there is a delay of a few hours (sometimes less) before the new password works. While that time passes, neither the new or the old password works) – and hence users end up getting locked out when trying several times.
    What might be the reason for the delay?

    There should be no delay. what kind of hosting do you have?

    I have shared hosting with xilo.net
    They assure me that I have 128MB of PHP memory
    (although I am not convinced that this is the case given many “fatal errors” I receive – which go away if I simply reload the page)
    I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on memory requirements (I am runnig WPLMS with BuddyPress and BuddyDrive as part of the standard plugins)

    If you have fatal errors, then that’s pretty much a problem that’s going to cause other problems, so you need to get this resolved, though I think you realise this. 🙂

    You need to let us know what plugins you are using.

    Specifically, are you using W3TC? With its Object Caching feature enabled? If so, there’s a bug in W3TC (we believe) that causes exactly this problem. We couldn’t figure out what was happening when we looked into it about six months ago. The solution is don’t use W3TC for object caching. 🙁

    Thanks Paul,
    I have attached 4 screenshots.
    The first three show the plugins I am using. The vast majority came with the WPLMS theme. The theme support claims they have never had the type of fatal errors I am receiving.
    The fourth image shows some of the fatal error messages I am receiving (this is a subset)

    I have been in contact with my ISP who says my memory is definitely fine but perhaps there is more than one script running that is pushing me over the limit.
    The theme provider have said that my case is unique and have concluded that the fatal error messages confirm it is a memory issue – especially after every time I get the message, if I re-enter the page it works. I have tested it on other sites and it still happens. My users have the same problem. It is intermittent and I get the message sometimes rarely and sometimes frequently.

    My tech skills are not high especially when it comes to things like PHP memory and SQL memory.
    I have been trying to resolve this for more than two weeks, but nothing has helped.
    I am on the point of moving to a VPS with another supplier – as I have run out of other options.

    I agree those all relate to running out of memory 😀

    No W3TC, so I’ve no immediate idea why you would be seeing problems with password change.

    Hi Paul – do you have any experience of what sort of memory I should be seeking?

    Memory could be running out due to heavy theme, too many plugins or badly written code.If server can’t handle it all. Reevaluate any plugins, do you need them all?

    Notice a memory fail with woo commerce email class. Might affect other emails. Try deactivating woo and see if password email goes through.
