Site address different to wordpress address

Hi,
I am trying to get buddypress working with it installed in a sub directory,
ie http://www.mysite.com/wpress/
But I want it to redirect to http://www.mysite.com
I know how to do this in wordpress and server redirects and I have this working on other sites but when I install buddypress, the pages don’t seem to work. It only works if the site address is the same as the wordpress install address.
I am running WordPress version 3.3.1, buddypress Version 1.5.3.1 and bbPress version 2.0.2. I have turned on group forums.
It is a clean install so I have never had it working.
Other plugin installed is akismet.
It is running on linux server
