1. This is what I write (when I use groups, currently not using): “No news yet, why not make some?”
2. I think the groups settings are accessible from BP front end. Groups > Admin. They’re all there, the settings I mean. Now it isn’t one click away. But it is on the front end.
I don’t mean to suggest that your ideas aren’t without merit. Certainly, “news” should be optional. And on the group admin, it would be nice to edit group settings without having to go deep into each group singly.
I’d think these features will come.
I cannot confirm whether users can edit groups they created or not. I don’t have groups installed right now.
I just know from a users perspective that they’re going to forget to write something, and then wonder why they get a big red error message on the next screen, that right now doesn’t tell them why, it just says “There was a problem..” or something similar. I like to idiot-proof things as much as possible.
I don’t see a Groups > Admin link, where is that? And using my User account, when I went to the backend, all that was there was the dashboard and a link to the Profile (WP not BP) / Personal Options section. That’s why I was saying there’s a need for a link in the front end, since Users can create groups but not edit them, unless I’m missing that Groups > Admin link you mentioned.
Excellent point, blue ocean. If there isn’t a fix, I am going to hack the group settings to at least provide better textual guidance to avid what you pointed out. Hoping not to have to do that
Thanks Mike. On another subject, I was just thinking that maybe my posts lately sound like I’m complaining about problems with BP, but it’s only because I love it so much and see the potential! I’m using it everyday on a real-world/live project and run into things I can and can’t do, and also getting feedback from my beta-users, so I assume the devs want them brought up, correct?
blueocean – absolutely! guys like burt, nicola and andy are over the top helpful and the dev site, buddypressdev.org is also a great place. I too have been playing with live ammo but, ironic that you mention, I am about to install a local MAMP site so I can tinker locally and not destroy my own community. should have done that in the 1st place
Great, thanks. I’ve only got it opened to a couple of close friends so far, I’ll open it up to more when most things are smoothed out.
I’m using the recent trunk version, but this isn’t fixed yet. I too suggest to make the group news field optional.
