Groups Issue

I have a weird issue at the moment with my groups. Two days ago I started receving “you have been promoted” mails for all the groups on the blog. I went in today and noticed every group has no more than 2 members where as before they have a lot more.

I am not sure what is going on. It seems as though someone/thing has removed people from every single group.

And I am not sure where the “promoted” mails are coming from as I am the admin on most of the groups and I did not prmote anyone…

Have you looked at the actual db tables? Is there really just 2 members per group all of a sudden? Then these notifications get generated. Never looked at where the notifications live. Lemme go look…

    What rev you on daniel?

These two members per group, just an admin and a mod? The members left in each group have any similarities other than you in common?

I am on the Beta version.

Loking through the emails, I was promoted on all the groups I was a member of at the time but looking at the groups now I am no longer a member.

I have an admin acc and a personal account and both users promoted in certain groups. My girlfriend also has a profile set up and she got the same mails so I am not sure how many users have been promoted but are also no longer members.

Ran a db check and there were a lot of errors all of them “clients are using or haven’t closed the table properly” – not sure what it means but it came up as a “warning”

Looking at the DB tables itself….in “groupmembers” users are still member of groups however they are banned…there is a “1” in the “is banned” field.

I am still lost but I am thinking this is more of a hack than bp issue….thoughts?

Looking at the users in wpadmin and some users’ role is now “no role for this blog” which is ever more confusing…everyone should be a subscriber

actually all users with their own blog setup should be “no role for this blog” right? thats what I am seeing the when look at authors and users

daniel I can’t imagine what would cause this other than some sort of mysql server crash. Perhaps you should talk to Trent about this issue. He’s got more db experience that everyone around here put together.

i went into the database and changed all the “is banned” settings back to 0 and everyone who was part of a group is again…

not sure what was going on there

This might be a bp issue. I’ve never tested banning and kicking. Why do I enjoy saying those things? Anyway, did any of your admins do such a thing lately? I’m thinking some out of control, I wanted to just do ‘him’ and it did ‘everybody?’ kinda thing. Oh, well I was never here or did *that*.

Looks like someone has admin privs that you don’t know about. Check that out.

Also – group admins can kick and ban people. Kicking and banning a user from a group means they no longer have any access to that group, and cannot rejoin.

Group admins cannot add a user to a new group without the user first opting in. They can of course send group invites.
