How come buddypress doesn’t have a SMTP setting?

As far as I understand, sending email using STMP will greatly decrease the rate your emails got into the spam folder. Then how come Buddypress doesn’t have a setting to let user use SMTP?
If I get it right, by default, the email sent by Buddypress will be from wordpress@mysite.com and it almost always gets into spam folder. What is Buddypress’s recommendation to solve this issue?
