How can I display the avatar and usernames of the last registered users, or customize the output of the default widget for the task?

Go to codex above and find the page for members loop. You can pass an argument to show newest members.

@modemlooper tanks for the answer, but there is noting on the codex for members loop, the codex documentation is very limited.
