Remove and hide groups

Hey! Newbie here and my idea is to create clean forum, but as I see there is forum and groups. Do i need groups for anything, if I only want forum section? And if the groups are not needed, how I disable it and remove all groups related things? I tryed to deactivate it from settings->BuddyPress-> Deactivating this “User Groups
Groups allow your users to organize themselves into specific public, private or hidden sections with separate activity streams and member listings.” but after doing this my homepage freezes on pc..I am just thinking that these groups things could be too much as I want simple and clean + easy to use forum.
