Request for comments – "Draggables" plugin

    Lo all.

    If you have a WPMU 2.8 trunk site running BuddyPress 1.0.2 or trunk, I’d appreciate if you would test a plugin I am working on; it’s called Draggables and you can download it here.

    It’ll only work on your i.e. http://example.com/members/admin/ page. Drag the column headings (“My Activity”, “My Friends” etc) around. Only tested on Safari 4 and very briefly in Firefox 3, both on OS X.

    If anyone knows some jquery/javascript, please take a look in the .js file in the archive; I’m stuck with a problem and any pointers would be appreciated.

    Sounds very promising. I hope someone else can test as I don’t have the required environment and no javascript skills.

    DJpaul, what’s the issue? It seemed to work ok when I played with it. You just needed to implement persistence right?

    Uncomment lines 75-84 in the javascript file, then work on the draggable_load() func at the top of the file. Basically whilst it does “load” the position on a page refresh, it doesn’t reorder the blocks properly, they get stuck together. Bit difficult to explain but try it and look at what you have selected when you start to drag but before you release the mouse.

    Well, I can’t do that at the moment Paul. I reverted my dev site to wpmu 2.7.1 due to widget problems in the wpmu back end. Running trunk wpmu developed various issues in the back end widget area. I was testing the bpc alpha 4 widgets and couldn’t change the titles. What?! Moving back to 2.7.1 solved this. I have to test and develop with what most people are running.

    Burt, are you aware of the new Widget API in 2.8? This is why you’re widgets were misbehaving. See here for more details: https://codex.wordpress.org/Version_2.8#New_Widgets_API

    I too am sticking with WPMU 2.7.1 for the time being. I’m just running bleeding edge with BP. Once I switch over to WPMU 2.8 trunk, I’ll give this a go. It sounds like an interesting plugin.

    It’s dependant on 2.8 because that comes with a newer version of jquery which apparently has needed bugfixes. Ultimately I want to convert the feature of this plugin into a patch proposal for BP, but Burt suggested that it starts life as a plugin until the main stuff is done and if it approved by Mr Peatling.

    Ah, that does make sense. And yes, the newest version of jQuery (I believe 1.3.2) is included in 2.8.
