.Pot File : Why can't I just change this in NotePad

    I downloaded ProEdit, but I can’t seem to figure out how to change the language pack in this .POT file.

    Every other language file I’ve ever worked with is just a simple text edit. I don’t get it. I just want to change the verbiage of the language file.

    ProEdit is confusing; //make a catelog and stuff.// Can somebody please explain how I can change the core language file.

    Is it really that complicated?

    You should be able to use any text editor to make changes. You just have to be sure to duplicate the string on the “msgstr” line, and only change the duplicate.

    okay well thanks for the info. way more complicated then it needs to be in my opinion.

    I don’t seem to have bp-custom.php

    the command line conversion on my server didn’t work to convert a po to a mo, so I guess for me it’s a no go.

    Yeah, the command line conversion is a barrier for a lot of people, as they either don’t have command line access, or if they do, gettext is not installed on the server.

    Also, there is no bp-custom.php file by default. You just create it as a new file, and put it directly in the plugins folder. BuddyPress will automatically check there for it.

    Yeah, it’s a bit of work to change strings, but anything simpler would likely not be upgrade-proof, or would be much slower.
