Difference Between Using WordPress and WordPress MU

    Hey,

I’m sorry if this has been discused and if it has please feel free to point me to it. I spend a few min searching the forum and looking in the FAQ.

I’m planing a social media site that will be ran off BuddyPress. I’ve decided to wait for WordPress 3.0 as I’m in no hurry to rush the site and with the merge of WP and WP mu sounds like it’ll make installing a fresh site a lot easier.

I was wonder if someone could let me know some of the differences between installing BuddyPress on a standard WordPress installation and a MU one. I would like to allow users to have their own profile and possibly their own blog which I assume would need MU to have a format like username.example.net but I could be wrong. Are standard installs more for single users/blog writers and the MU install for multi contributor (aka mini site) websites?

Thank you so much for all the time everyone puts into this!

    Brooke

Right now the difference is having more than one blog. Other than that BP is no different.

If you want user blogs use MU.

I have installed BP on wordpress SU and already with some contents posted by admin & authors. but i need to use plugins like ajax-chat & photo album which do not support wordpress SU.

Must i migrate from wpsu to wpmu? how to do it?

I’m also trying to understand the differences…

I have a standard wp site that with multiple blog authors and am thinking of adding Buddypress to it… at the moment even authors don’t have a link in the admin section to post to the blog… so i’m a bit confused about how that functionality is going to work.

I also wonder it will be possible to add a public useable contac form to member profiles – if anyone could point me to a plugin that would be great because at the moment i’m guess they are all geared to ward BP/WPMU?

If MU and SU merge in 3.0 what does this mean for Buddypress. Maybe I should wait? Does this mean there will be no separate download and installs?

You should wordpress mu and buddypress because you want to social network (supports buddypress) and blog for every user (supports wordpress mu).
