    Hello developers,

I am not sure whether or not the Buddypress site of mine would require a Terms of Service, is it recommended? I don’t want to get into any legal troubles. If anyone knows anything about Terms of Service, please post. I would love to hear your solution.

Our website uses the WordPress.com TOS made available as a CC license: http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

Does this mean I am able to use this as a template for my TOS?

Ha! Didn’t know you could add a TOS as a CC license!

Cool of WordPress.com to offer one! Will take a look at this later.

@motionsw – yes you can use it as a guide for your own.

Here’s the part that says you can:

…you’re more than welcome to steal [this TOS] and repurpose it for your own use, just make sure to replace references to us with ones to you, and if you want we’d appreciate a link to WordPress.com somewhere on your site. We spent a lot of money and time on the below, and other people shouldn’t need to do the same.

I was about to write a thread titled “We have our BP site up, should we use Terms Of Service”?

But since this thread’s here, no need to do that.

And, the WordPress.com resource is really what I was looking for. At the least as a base to be worked out to fit your particula site.

Once I customized mine, I will come here a provide the link to my TOS page, and it would be a nice idea if everybody else would do the same, so to share each other’s for inspiration.

    What do you think?

Not really sure this is a good idea.

Slightly surprised that WP make this available and under a CC, seems a bit odd, but regardless scanning it reveals a pretty standard set of points, but they certainly would need adapting to ones own SPECIFIC needs especially sections that deal with VIP services and the last paragraph specifying legal jurisdiction etc which is not pertinent outside the States and possibly California?.

One needs to take a certain amount of care with legal documents even ones of this nature, to start modifying them could lead to trouble unless one had it checked over; to modify one and then to post it up for others to use unless it had been checked over could be considered irresponsible and give rise to others copying a badly worded document.

I am being deliberately over alarmist though :-)

I’m being deliberetly overalarmist though :)
