I tried what @boonebgorges wrote but it did not add any meta to bp-activity-meta when I tested it. Maybe that example is outdated.

What I’m trying to accomplish is add a button to each activity item and when clicked adds a true or false to meta. This button is only for the super admin so relational data is not important.

I tried using hacked favorites code but I think that code is too much for a simple true false attached to activity_id

I don’t see anything in your code that would actually save the activity metadata. Maybe you forgot to paste it in the pastebin? Where are the functions activity_remove_user_promoted() and activity_add_user_promoted() defined?

Forget my pastebin that code is overkill for what I need. Can you give a simple example of adding meta?

I haven’t tested, but the addition of a function like the top one I’ve added here should do the trick:

You’ll need a corresponding function to delete that activity meta.
