how to avoid creating blog by username?

A member on my site just created a blog, he uses his username. Now he can’t open his own account page, coz the url is the same as his blog rul. I suggested him changing his blog name, now it’s working.
How to avoid this on the process of blog creating?

that’s interesting. I’ve been encouraging users to use their usernames! but that’s on a subdomain setup…I I’ve avoided doing that on my subdir’s cuz I can see how this could be a problem using sub directories.

How exactly did he change is blog name to fix the issue? Because they can’t change their blog url only the name? They can’t really change their username either…so was it a url issue?

Also did you remove the use of the /members/ part of the user urls?
A future version of BP(i think 1.3) that will introduce wp pages for BP components I would think would resolve this whole issue altogether.

The only thing I can think of to do easily would be to put instructions in the messaging during the blog create process “not to use their username because the sky will fall” :)

Can you give samples of the URLs?
