I searched on the site but I don’t found the answer… maybe my fault…
so I have a question and I’m sorry if it is maybe a dummy question…

I’ll resume to work on an old website project, long ago then I
created a theme based on BP-sn-parent. (It was based on bp-classic 1.2 beta).

What changes should I make on it to upgrade, that it becomes compatible with BuddyPress 1.2.5.2 and WP3 multisite?

(hem, for now I have only changed the @import url to import bp-default and no more bp-sn-parent !)

There is a tutorial, please, or some links?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It’s not a dummy question but there is little to go on, the best I can suggest is that you start of afresh create a child theme (which it sounds as though you have done) and start to add your old styles in and try and re-create the previous layout based on the new default theme, more than this and you would need to provide far more detail but i don’t think it would help, just a case of getting stuck in really and asking questions as and when you get stuck.

If you relied a lot on the BP 1.0 or 1.1 theme structure, then you’d need to install the BP Backwards Compatibility plugin:

I should note I have no experience using this plugin whatsoever.

hnla is right; if your theme isn’t too custom, I would recommend building a new child theme of the bp-default.

@alcina22 I went through this myself not too long ago (moving from a bp-sn-default based theme to BP 1.2) and I ended up rebuilding the child theme to be dependent on bp-default. It was an annoying and somewhat difficult process, but in the end I think it’s better to be dependent on bp-default (which is guaranteed to get developer attention, and which is just generally much easier to work with than bp-sn-parent).

Like Boone I went through the process of moving a bp-sn theme to BP 1.2 install and used the backwards compatibility plugin, while I succeeded more or less I had an uneasy feeling that it wasn’t the best or most rebust approach and felt there would be issues awaiting around the corner so I eventually took the decision to build afresh for that layout based on BP-Default, although it cost time I wasn’t planning on spending at that moment especially having allocated and used time working with the backwards compatibility plugin in the long run it was the best choice.

Boone, you’re right, thank you for your advice
I’m working on, I saw there are a lot of differences in php… so I do rebuild also the template’s files(html/php) and not only the css…

for ex. I have in my old theme a home.php file to override the home.php file it was in bp-sn-parent, but NOT in the new bp-default… I don’t know what I’ll do… maybe I’ll post a new thread here!
