I read the buddypress how to on making a localization, but to do that to 4400 lines of code would take hours.

You can’t find/replace, you have to add the revised text to every msgstr. That can’t be right. Good coders are lazy coders, so if anyone knows of a simple an effective plugin or solution do customizing your BP let me know. Thank you.

Would you mind telling me where to find all the documentation on “how to write good buddy press plug-ins.” I already know PHP. I don’t want to start with bad habbits. I want the strict standards from buddy press. I’m a beginner at plug-in programming. Or, I will be as soon as I get the documentation for the standards and regulations.

There is no real guideline apart from making sure your plugin is BP-aware.

You can check out how BP’s internal code is structured as well some of the most popular BP plugins.

A BP plugin is basically a WP plugin so you can also read up on WP’s general guidelines.
