You can deactivate activity comments on blog and forum posts in the backend, therefore forcing users to go to the post to comment if they want to.
Where? I only see the option to disable the Activity Stream
BuddyPress -> General Settings
What about the BuddyPress Like plugin? Does that Like the Activity or the Post itself?
The activity I guess, but that’s something to ask the plugin author.

I am building a website using BuddyPress for a community that can share multimedia work at University. Users can comment on each others posts and ‘Like them’ using the BP-Like plugin.
However I have noticed a problem with the activity stream! If a user views the stream and sees the follow message “Cameron has posted ‘New Portfolio Design'” they could and probably would comment and like it right there on the stream instead of visiting the post. The problem is that they haven’t actually liked or commented on the post but on the actual activity itself! So in effect they would need to comment and like TWICE for it to work as intended. Basically the whole activity stream is completely alien to the WP core comments.
Has anyone else run into this issue with BuddyPress? Why on earth is the activity comments separate from post comments?? As in its current format I can’t possibly use the stream as it’s completely cut-off from my entire site!
