BP Mail Function screwing with Gravity Forms

Howdy folks. I’m currently using both BuddyPress and Gravity Forms. The problem lies when a user fills out a regular contact form built with Gravity Forms. The “Mail From” name shows up as my WP Site Title instead of the name of the user that fills out the form.

The moment I disable BuddyPress, the GF notifications have the correct “Mail From” name.

It seems that BP’s mailer is overriding the default WP mailer. Not sure if there’s a way to fix this or not? I’ve used a couple add-ons that let you change the from name and email address that BP notifications get sent from, but unfortunately it’s just a static setting. Thanks for any insight.

Why not define the from name in Gravity Forms rather than pull it dynamically?

NOTE: This might be a good question to ask over at the Gravity Forms support forum.

Hi Toby, thanks for the reply. I actually do have a thread started with Gravity Forms. They suggested to disable all my plugins, so I did, and noticed that the problem occurred when BP was enabled. The From Name is controlled through Gravity Forms, but BuddyPress is overriding the GF settings and adding the site title as the From Name. It’s basically treating my contact form notifications as if they were BuddyPress notifications.

The moment I disable BuddyPress, I can successfully fill out forms on my website that come from the true “From” that I have specified in my Gravity Form settings.

@danzigism – That’s really weird… Are you using the most recent version of Gravity Forms, BuddyPress, etc.?

Yes, using BuddyPress 1.6.1 and Gravity Forms 1.6.9.

Are you using the default BP theme?

@danzigism Hi, I’ve got the same problem . Have you found a solution?

And why am I showing up as “Deleted User”?

Are you able to visit your profile page here on BuddyPress.org? If so, try changing your username.

Hey there @Ionut – Unfortunately the From Name from any of my gravity forms still uses the WP Site Name. The moment I disable BuddyPress, the moment Gravity Forms starts working just fine.

Their mailer notification function is definitely overriding the “from” variable at some point in time.

Thanks everyone for posting about this issue.  I’ve also encountered this as well.

It’s definitely BuddyPress being a bit aggressive with its email filter.  I’ll post a new issue about this and hopefully we can address this for v1.7.
