I have reinstalled forums on the site
Uncheck/check enable forums in group admin / settings
Checked permissions – 755 or 777

Still getting the error “There was an error when creating the topic”

Can you help?

When I create a new group I get the message – “This group does not have a forum setup yet.”

I might add that I have migrated this from a test server to the production server, and this issue has arisen…

Paul Gibbs has answered this for me.

If you have migrated the site to a new server – don’t forget to edit the database details of the new site in – bbconfig.php.

In the same location as wpconfig.php.

This will fix the issue.
