Close To Completing My Independent Registration Page…Stuck On The Login Process…Need Help..

If you check my last few posts on this forum, you’ll see dialog about me creating my independent registration page (one that shows up regardless of login status)..
At this point, I really need to know what files are responsible for the login process and all that happens…particularly what files are responsible..
I know wp-login.php plays a big role, but are there any other files involved that saves cookies or creates meta tags? Also, if you want, please enlighten me on what happens step by step when someone logs into their account (as far as cookies, $bp global variable..etc is concerned)…
The answer(s) to this issue would help me out a lot, as I will know what I need to do from a coding end. Thanks
