Combining another field to display name?

I renamed the core Name field to ‘First Name’ and created a second field ‘Last Name’.
Is there anyway I can append the ‘Last Name’ field to the display name variable so that the user’s full name is displayed as normal?
I cannot get this to work. Appreciate any help, thank you.
