How do I add buddyPress within my existing blog?

I have a forum page on my blog http://thecoalcity.com/forum

How can I activate buddypress within my blog (have it display on “forum page”) and every other part of my blog remaining the same – including the sidebar? Thanks for your comment.

Easy answer is install the BP Template Pack plugin. This will keep the look of your site while adding BP functionality. This will not add BP pages under the “forum” page though.

If you want everything BP-related including member profiles, groups, etc. to reside under the “forum” slug (eg. thecoalcity.com/forum/members/admin and thecoalcity.com/forum/groups/), you’d first have to deactivate Simple:Press, then you’d have to activate WordPress 3.0 in subdirectory network mode. Lastly, you could install BP on a sub-blog called “forum”.

This may be more work than you’re willing to do to set this up.

Thanks r-a-y. I sincerely appreciate your response. I will have to give it a try (though am wondering if I can ever do all that). But if this will by any chance work it will greatly improve my site.

Am using WP 2.9, will that have any impact?

Or can you assist me on this, before I end up sinking my blog?

I’d just stick to the first option. Unless you really insist you want everything to reside under the “forum” subdirectory.

You won’t break your blog. But just to be extra cautious, back up everything!

Hi r-a-y, I gave it a try but am still stuck. Here is a tip of what I have http://thecoalcity.com/activity

I have some thing I need help on:
    1. The layout: Its not displaying as is the case with my regular pages.
    2. I need a central page for buddypress, say “community”. As is the case here.
    3. The buddypress navigation tab at the tab, is there a way for it not obstructing my Header image?

Note: I have not applied the buddypress theme, do I have to – since I don’t want the whole of my site to be buddypress?

    Thanks a lot.
