Including custom post type posts and comments in activity stream

I have a custom post type (“books”) and I like activities (new posts and comments) related to this post type to be included in the activity stream.

I’ve had a look at Boone’s post (http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/custom-post-types-comments-and-the-activity-stream-in-bp-1-5/) about how to get this working, and tried a bunch of different alternatives… but no luck so far.

I’m running WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated. I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this.
