The “Forum” links are still on the group pages, but the links redirect to the home page. Topic links get 404.

Troubleshooting, the only change we’ve made is “optimizing” our database last night. This is the only thing that doesn’t work (so far).

I’ve installed a fresh WP 3.1.1 and fresh BP 1.2.8. Still nothing. Yes, forums are active in General Settings.

Any ideas what else I can do?

Update your permalinks again, and if that does not work check to see if your .htaccess is correct. Another option that worked for me in the past is going to BuddyPress > Forum Setup > Use existing installation. Then you should see the path to where your current BBPress forum is configured by BuddyPress (should be your root folder). Just press Install and it should work.

If you don’t want to take ANY chances make a backup first

Re-setting up the Forum installation did the trick. I was hesitant to try it because I didn’t want to make thing worse.
