Question: How to set no restriction or aspect-ratio on avatars?

Hey guys, got a question about avatars:

How can I make it so there is no restriction on the aspect ratio of the user’s avatar?

In Facebook, you can crop your profile picture to any height/width, and it is shrunk down to a certain max-width but aspect ratio is preserved.

I can do the latter part quite easily (the shrinking) but I’m not sure how to remove the restriction on avatar cropping :/

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Update: I can see how to remove the aspect ratio in the Jcrop script, that’s cool – but when you remove the aspect ratio, you get some funky results on the avatar preview panel, with it stretching the image.

This makes sense because of the way the preview is handled, with it stretching the image in the pane to reflect the cropped area – so I guess the thing to do is remove the preview pane altogether and let the user work it out based on the crop boundaries they’re creating.
