Registration Problems

Just been testing out the registration process. I keep getting this message :
Only lowercase letters and numbers allowed
However even when I use all lowercase I still get the same problem.
Also, can I make it so that capitals can be used ? If the registration process is diffiult, how many people are going to persevere ? If I was constantly met by this message I wouldnt sign up to a community.
