Themes broken after 1.5.1 upgrade

  • Tried to post this earlier, and got an error. The topic title is showing, but not the question. Let’s try again!

I just upgraded to 1.5.1 – and now all my Buddypress themes are broken. The main error I’m getting is this:

Frisco for BuddyPress The parent theme is missing. Please install the “bp-default” parent theme.

Frisco is the theme I’m really concerned about using, but every single other Buddypress theme I’ve tried to use is also broken. Basically, the default works and nothing else.

The bp-default parent theme seems to still be there. And yet, when I try to go to any BP theme, it’s simply broken and won’t work. What am I missing? How can i get my site running again? I have a backup theme working that looks okay, but the navigation is subpar compared to using a Buddypress-optimized theme.

    Thanks!

  • Okay, so I copied the bp-default theme out of its folder in Plugins and into my Themes directory. Tried activating Frisco again, and got this:

Warning: require_once(/home6/candlema/public_html/sadblasters/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/theme-options.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home6/candlema/public_html/sadblasters/wp-content/themes/frisco-for-buddypress/functions.php on line 57

Child themes appear to be working fine for me. There should have been no changes in 1.5.1 that affect how child themes work.

I try to go to any BP theme, it’s simply broken and won’t work

Can you be more specific? Does “go to” mean “activate”? In what sense won’t it work? Do you get white screens? Do you only get WP errors, with the theme reverting to a default? What happens when you activate bp-default itself?

And hey, after activating just the bp-default theme, I’m still getting errors!

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_site_name() in /home6/candlema/public_html/sadblasters/wp-content/themes/bp-default/header.php on line 27

I’ve also gotten a fatal call to undefined function on line 13.

Seriously, no idea what’s wrong here. I may just go nuclear, scrub everything, and start from scratch. Luckily, I only built the site a couple days ago and only really have test users.

Um, did you deactivate BuddyPress itself? Sounds like it’s not being loaded correctly.

@boonebgorges: Yep, that’s what I mean. I keep getting WP errors when I try to activate a child theme.

The upgrade apparently removed bp-default from my Themes folder somehow; I went and copied it back in, and activated it just now. I’m still getting errors – calls to undefined functions. So far, I’ve gotten a call to undefined function on line 13 and one on line 27, as copied above.

bp-default should not be in wp-content/themes. It is loaded directly from wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes.

It sounds like BuddyPress is not fully loading. Check a few things:
    – Make sure it’s activated
    – Make sure it’s not waiting for you to walk through an upgrade wizard. Try clicking on the BuddyPress menu item on the Dashboard or on Dashboard > Network Admin (multisite)

…okay, yep, somehow Buddypress itself got deactivated.

Wow, I’m a special snowflake this morning.

Thanks for the wake-up, @boonebgorges. I needed that. And a cup of coffee, apparently.

Glad to hear it’s working :)
