Upgraded to 1.2.3. Can’t activate and old theme broken.

I’ve just upgraded BuddyPress to 1.2.3 on a newly upgraded WP MU (2.9.2)
The site seems to be working ok but: a) when I try to activate the newly-updated BuddyPress plugin I get a blank Fatal Error; b) the old Default Home Page home page (the one which allowed widgets) is now blank, so I have to use the new default theme (which works ok). All the files are still in place (/themes/bphome) but nothing doing…
Help. Please!
