Username in Profile URL

Hi, is it possible to use something other than username is the user’s profile URL? We’d like to keep usernames relatively private and would not like them as part of any URL. In fact, we’d like to basically hide all mention of the usernames people use to log in with. Thanks!

I know it’s been a while… but does anyone have any advice? thanks.

Not really. It uses that part of the URL to detect which users’ pages you are trying to view.

Thanks. This is unfortunate. We feel that exposing this information (username) is a security problem. Plus, our usernames are sufficiently ugly that we’d rather not have them in URLs!

It looks like this plugin will do the trick:

    http://brandonallen.org/wordpress/plugins/edit-author-slug/

That looks like it would rename part of WordPress’ author URI, not the actual user name?

might be possible to override the filter bp_core_get_userid (what is used in catchuri) and instead of looking up via username and use a different sql statement

    Hi

I’m trying to do exactly the same thing but the plugin linked above doesn’t work when you have buddypress installed.

Wordpress can use the user “nicename” as the url – but for some reason the profile page breaks whenever there is a dash (“-“) in that field.
