Brand new site collapses when buddypress plugin is activated

I have a brand new site with wordpress 3.0.1 installed in the root folder and with no additional themes or plugins installed. The very first plugin I have installed is buddypress. The moment I activate the plugin I get the white screen of death.

I have not activated any other features such as multisite, etc. I have followed the installation instructions precisely as they pitch on the bp homepage: Install wp; Head to your “Plugins ? Add New” menu and automatically install BuddyPress; but when I activate the plugin everything crashes and the dashboard remains that way until I disable the plugin via ftp.

I have several other wp powered sites hosted with the same host and no issues, which rules out possibilities of php or mysql versions.

    Can anyone please guide me.

Have you has a search through the posts for any solutions or pointers?

Most often when this issue arises as you describe it’s due to having insufficient PHP script memory allocated, if you have a search around you will find many posts on the subject dealing with this and the available methods to deal with a the script memory limit setting in php.ini

As I mentioned a search would have answered this:
