Error 500 – Internal server error An internal server error has occured! Please

I have followed the install instructions to a tee, and when I go to activate I am faced with this error message:

Error 500 – Internal server error

An internal server error has occured!

    Please try again later.

I have contacted server and they say they cannot help because I am installing a 3rd party plugin. The extent of their service is only getting sites live and trouble-shooting.

Is your webhost 1and1? If so, it’s either a php version issue or a memory issue. Both of these have been addressed previously so give the forum a search and report back if those don’t help!

if you are using 1and1 you need to

Create a .htaccess file and place the following line AddType x-mapp-php5 .php in it. Upload it to the wpmu folder.

I just tried this and got another internal server error… any ideas? At least this error tells me the email address to contact. Also, is there SUPPOSED to be a space between x-mapp-php5 and .php or are they supposed to be together?

*IF* the error is the memory one, have a look at https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/500-errors-1and1-webhost#post-29415
