I understand that buddypress should work with WordPress 2.9.2 (not WordPressMU). I have installed BP however, when I go to register I don’t have wp-signup.php installed in my WordPress installation. I have seen this file in WordPressMU so I was wondering how I can get this to work without having to reinstall WordPress which is sadly not an option for me.

Buddypress works fine with WP 2.9.2. I am using both.
I am not sure I understand your problem.
Are you saying that you can’t sign in to the site?
Can’t register?
How about posting a link to your site.
I don’t like the WP register/login screen so I use a login with Ajax plugin.
